  • Base Game   ( 19 Articles )

The Commands & Colors: Ancients game system allows players to effectively portray epic engagements of ancient history.

The battles, showcased in the scenario section, focus on the historical deployment of forces and important terrain features on the scale of the game system. The scale of the game is flexible and varies from battle to battle. For some scenarios, an infantry unit may represent a legion of soldiers, while in other scenarios a unit may represent just a few brave warriors.
The Command card system drives movement, creates ‘fog of war’, and presents players with many interesting challenges and opportunities, while the battle dice resolve combat quickly and efficiently. The battlefield tactics you will need to execute to gain victory conform remarkably well to the strengths and limitations of the various ancient unit types, their weapons, the terrain, and history.
In this core game of the series, we focus on battles involving Rome and Carthage and a few additional scenarios that pit Carthage against other historic enemies. Additional expansion modules will be forthcoming. You will need this game in order to play any of the expansions.

  • Expansion 1   ( 4 Articles )
In this first expansion, we focus on battles involving the Greeks and their rivals and enemies to the east—the Persians, Scythians and Indians. Additional battles are provided to allow you to pit the Greeks of Pyrrhus against the Roman army from the core game. You can also use the Greeks from this expansion instead of the Romans from the core game to fight against the Carthaginians in the battles of Akragas and Crimissos River. Additional expansion modules will be forthcoming. You will need the Commands and Colors: Ancients core game in order to play this expansion.

  • Expansion 3   ( 5 Articles )
In this third expansion, we focus on 19 Roman battles from 82 BC to 45 BC, involving the exploits of Quintus Sertorius in Spain, battles from the second Roman Civil War, and more of Caesar’s engagements against the barbarian tribes of Gaul and Germany. In addition to these standard battles, you will find 4 Epic Ancient battles and all the rules needed to conduct a Commands & Colors: Epic Ancients battle which uses two maps and offers larger scale battles. You will need the Commands & Colors: Ancients core game, plus Commands and Colors Ancients Expansion #2 in order to play the standard battles in this expansion. One battle uses blocks from Expansion number one, but other blocks may be used if this expansion is not available. You will need the Commands & Colors: Ancients core game, plus Commands and Colors Ancients Expansions #1 and 2 in order to play the epic battles in this expansion.

  • Expansion 4   ( 0 Articles )
In this fourth expansion, we have taken the opportunity to present a number of battles that we just did not have room to include in prior expansions. The Romans fight in Britain at Medway 43AD, against Boudica at Watling Street 61 AD, and later at Mons Graupius 84AD. Antony and Octavian of the Second Triumvirate battle it out twice with Cassius and Brutus at Philippi 42BC. But the main focus of this expansion is Rome's conflicts against the Parthian Empire, Teutonic Barbarians and internal turmoil of civil wars until Constantine becomes the undisputed Roman Emperor around 325AD.

Imperial Rome is packed full of unique and interesting play concepts and new units: cataphracted cavalry, wagon laager forts, massed units of horse archers, light infantry tossing caltrops and more. Each of these concepts operates within the confines of the original system rules, with only slight modifications to reflect historical abilities and importance. So, rules-wise, if you own Commands & Colors: Ancients, you'll have no trouble learning the few new special rules.

    Components:

    • 160 blocks and two sticker sheets
    • 1 sheet of new terrain tiles
    • 4 wooden card holders
    • scenario booklet
    • 2 reference cards

Important: In order to play the scenarios in the Imperial Rome expansion, you will need a copy of the basic Commands & Colors: Ancients game and copies of Expansion Nr. 1 Greek vs The Eastern Kingdoms and Expansion Nr. 2 Rome vs The Barbarians.
