CRONIUM - 376 BC Carthaginian vs Syracusan Historical Background In the tradition of Carthaginian family vengeance, Himilco, son of Mago, revitalised his fathers shattered army with fresh troops, mercenaries and intensive training. Dionysius expected another easy victory but this time the Carthaginian centre held firm and the Syracusan flanks were shattered, leaving their centre to be surrounded and massacred. This battle brought an end to the campaign of Dionysius and pushed forward the Carthaginian border to the Halycus River. The stage is set. The battle lines are drawn and you are in command. The rest is history.
