Lyncestians vs Macedonians

Historical Background
During a one year period of peace during the Archidamian (Peloponnesian) War, a picked force of Spartan helots and mercenaries under command of Brasidas assisted King Perdiccas II of Macedonia in his campaign to bring the Macedonian highland territory of Lyncestis under control.  Though facing off against a foe possessing a superior collection of hoplites on an opposing hillside across a narrow valley, the Lyncestians under command of Arrhabaeus advanced to combat.  Although initially beginning as a cavalry engagement with both light and heavy horse involved, the melee gave way to an infantry battle easily won by the more experienced Macedonian army. 
The highlanders were forced back into the hills, where their fortunes later improved when Macedonian tribal reinforcements defected to Arrhabaeus.  The royal army then disintegrated in the face of this combined force, leaving Brasidas to conduct a fighting retreat, which he and his Spartans did with considerable skill. The intrigue did not end there, as Perdiccas II later switched allegiance to Athens.
