Some thoughts for the Seleucid player in the Campaign:

These battles are best played as a campaign as some of them, especially the first three, are one sided. But the Seleucid player only needs to tie the campaign 4-4 to win. You will probably lose the first three battles as the set up and ambush conditions heavily favour the Hasmonaeans. If you can get a win in one of them you are well on the way to winning the campaign, but don't count on it!

The battles of Beth Zecharia and Elasa are you best chances for victory. These are the only battles in which you have two leaders, 5 Command cards and go first. You also have good troops. If you lost the first three games you must win this pair.

The remaining three battles are where the campaign can be won. You only have one leader and four Command cards, but you have okay to good troops and are not hampered by the the severe ambush conditions. Beth Zur does have surprise, but it is fairly minor compared to the ambush rules.

In Beth Zur if you can extricate your exposed light cover forces and advance quickly with your strong camp forces to engage the light Hasmonaeans in a straight up fight, you have a good chance of victory.

In Adasa your army is weak, but the Hasmonaeans are not too strong either and they only have 1 leader as well, although it is Judas himself. You will need the rub of the luck here but it is definitely winnable.

In Ashdod you have a good army, but the key is getting the two light bow cavalry units back to safety. Get one back and you have a chance. Lose both and you are in effect starting the battle 2-0 down. If both survive the initial Hasmonaean turn and you have a "Move Fire Move" card you are in with a great chance.

Having said all that I have never actually won the campaign for the Seleucids. In my four solitaire play throughs the Hasmonaeans won 6-2 twice (historical result) and 5-3 twice.
